This was Dip Set at their most exciting. Casual aggression, killer punchlines and punchy soul-sample production. Recently listening to a 2001 ‘hip hop love’ compliation I was revising some the the lyrical content in ‘Oh Boy’- bail agreements, first degree murder and sex trafficking?! Still, here it feels like a return to the MOP/Mobb Deep ‘hardcore’ but with a glossy almost radio friendly vibe and its fair to say that’s what brought Dip Set temporary success. Camron rocks metaphors like a harlem boxers’ punchbag combo- my particular favorite:

‘you got pets? me too/mines are dead/ foxes, mink them gators are necessary/ accessories, my closet’s like pet cemetary/ ‘

made me choke on the bus and text it to three of my mates. With a still-hungry Kanye on the beats you can indulge that give-a-shit section of your swagger that you thought you had forgotten.
